In the 1960's and early 1970's, there was a new sound in the music world. At Studio One in Jamaica, Clement Dodd was acting as the catalyst for a new kind of music called reggae.

Before Bob Marley arrived on the scene, Dodd was experimenting with sound. Dodd was first known as a "sound system man" playing other peoples music at dances. He gathered a following of music lovers and players of music.

Asked about the recording process, I was told how the songs were developed spontaneously. A musician would start with a piano progression which would erupt like a volcano. (Click here for a 85k wav file interview clip.)

Almost everyone that has made a name in reggae has been touched by Studio One. From the development of Bob Marley to the influence on Narley Marley, the meaning of reggae continues to grow.
