Just about ready to get back into the saddle. The eye infection seems to have been more extensive than originally thought.
I'll probably start sending text following the outline sometime next week. In the meantime, here's a couple related, if mildly innocuous, tidbits, whose sole value is probably limited to characterizing current governmental web postures. Here endeth the disclaimer.
The Defense Investigative Service (DIS) has begun selectively shotgun net-casting EMail advising of increasing industrial and mainstream espionage efforts by unnamed groups and governments. These DIS net-casts post guidelines for prevention measures and DIS addresses for reporting suspected espionage activities. Some of these net-casts place implicit emphasis on global "technology exchange" issues.
Meanwhile, back in China, the Chinese military com-net (now in fetal stages of development) is now the "backbone" of what the Chinese government has claimed will be their Information Infrastructure. Previously, China has turned back many efforts to gain access to (or help create) public/commercial web by a variety of western businesses and G7/IITF. China is recognized as the premier greatest violator of international intellectual property rights protections, the largest audio tape/video tape/software bootlegger on the planet, and possibly the main player in a world wide kidnapping/slave trade market.
Additionally, China and the US signed documents whereby, essentially, China agrees to step up efforts to guard against CD piracy. (That's markedly superfluous in light of the dozens of international treaties broadly recognized as furnishing protection against such property theft).
Immediately preceding said dog and pony show, China closed down 15 (count them: fifteen) pirate CD factories - yes, that's *factories* - as in major manufacturing and distribution facilities.
The UN may soon begin playing a much more significant role in matters of large scale commercial disputes, such as over the revenues generated by commercial piracy.
Meanwhile, perhaps the venerable epicenter of Mao's "revolution" will be relocated from Beijing to Hong Kong for commercial applications by '97.
