Ivan checks in... Yet another Think-Tanker...
Capn says... Everyone please welcome Ivan to the "Think Tank". He will be helping out with the interactive multimedia project. Ivan develops software for interactive film production. Check out http://www.cinax.com
Capn tells Ivan... You could begin to cc: all e-mail that is of a technical nature to video@membrane.com, so that any parties that were not on the original mail list can get caught up later
Ivan comments....
Dear Capn,
I've visited your home-pages (again), and spent quite some time there. I've liked it very much, these is interesting project(s) your guys are undertaking and I would be honored to be part of it or help in any way.
I was thinking that some definitions wouldn't hurt. This whole interactive film (or interactive whatever) business is so new and unexplored - and it suffers from lack of terminology. I should be the very least guy (considering my English skills) to work on it - but, heck, I'm doing just that. I'm currently working on the document, kind of a draft of 'Interactive Film Manifest' - will send it to you in a couple of days, would very much appreciate your comments.
Capn says...
Sure, I'd be interested to see your work. When there are facts to be explained, you've gotta' explain the facts)
Willie checks in with Capn...
Hows it going? Got back from colorado to find my 9 gig went down hard! Had started a brain thing but my brain is dead, Hope to come up with somthing good here soon. I've got a short clip of a mummy, a brain CT scan, and a picture of a guy with a ring piercing through his brain. Going to scan in a syringe and try and put something together.
Capn talks to Tony, another experimenter....
We would like to experiment with creating original music by multitracking .wav files through the net with you.
Are you game?
Tony replies...
Yes. I think it would be a clever media. Let's try it.
Capn asks...
Have you downloaded any of our music video off of the web? It might help you get a feel for where we are coming from: http://membrane.com/video/index
Tony replies...
Yes. I downloaded a clip from the
Labyrinth,
a 1.3 megabyte AVI file.
Cool graphics it kind of reminded me of the underground trains in the
CD-ROM game MYST.
I think I can do some outrageous music for
you guys.
Cool graphics with cool music will create attention won't it!
We need to come up with a standard platform to build projects cooperatively. You could send maybe parts of the project in .AVI or .MOV format and I could insert music into it that would be synched. Then at your site you could extract the .WAV portion, or just view the .AVI file to fine tune the ideas. Then when satisfied I could make the final .WAV file.
Just some ideas.... I've also been experimenting with music synched to video tape using SMPTE or midi(mtc). You could create the video portion on VHS and strip the tape with a SMPTE strip or MIDI(MTC) using one of the channels. I, then could create the music that can be synched to the master . This option would require you to have a similar set up as me.
Anyway, let me know what you think...
